Veil & Epoxy Coating Use
Use of Stealth Epoxy Coatings with Stealth Veils
Veil & Epoxy Coating Use
Stealth Epoxy Coatings have been specially formulated for use with our Stealth Veil printed fabrics as well as with all the products we offer.
Coatings are different from most of the base grade epoxies that are being sold in today’s market.
Our Stealth Epoxy Coatings have a very high Heat Deflection Temperature and a higher Shore Durometer making our finished surfaces much harder and more durable. This gives a much more scratch and impact resistant finish than those currently available on the market. It also has a lower l viscosity than the other brands. This allows Stealth Epoxy Coating to self-level much more effectively, and decreases the amount of trapped air.
Our Stealth Coatings also provide a high level of U.V and water resistance. They are also food safe, and easy to clean. Our epoxies contain no VOC’s or HAP’s. We are proud to be green and 100% ecofriendly. Perfect for all your DIY creations.
Epoxy tips:
Be aware of your working time. Every epoxy has what’s called a “gel time”. This is how much time you have before the epoxy starts to thicken and begins in curing phase.
Once the epoxy and hardener are mixed thoroughly, pour the entire amount over your work surface. This will help maximize your working time. Leaving the epoxy in the cup after its been mixed will start to generate heat and speed up the hardening process.
Application: Using Stealth Epoxy Coatings with Stealth Veils fabrics.
When using Stealth Epoxy Coating with Stealth Veils fabric,
you are a few simple steps away from spectacular results.
* As with most projects, taking time for proper surface preparation pays off in the quality of the finished product. To avoid any read-through of surface flaws, start with a properly prepared surface.
1. Choosing a “backing” color
White or lighter colors are a good choice if you want your Stealth Veil color pattern to stay its original color. *We highly recommend using a LOW AMMONIA base PP (Paint & Primer) for your base color application (We recommend Behr brand) when using Latex paints and (Rustoleum) when spraying enamels. Once applied, allow 4 to 6 hours drying time. If you’re not sure what color, you want your project cut small sample sizes of Stealth Veil with different backing colors behind each sample and apply our Stealth Coating to see what you can create you’ll be amazed at what you can do. 2. Getting Started
We recommend pre-cutting your Stealth Veil, drape the veil over your project you’ll want to add an extra 3” to 5” extra when you cut it out, this will help you when aligning it as well as removing wrinkles.
Using our spray adhesive, thoroughly cover the surface, as well as all sides and corners, allow a minute or two for the adhesive to tack up.
3. Applying The Veil
Now that your Stealth Veil Pattern has been applied to the surface of your project wrinkle and air free its ready to trim the extra veil hanging over the edge. Use a new razor blade or sharp scissors.
4. Applying the 1st Layer of Epoxy Coating
Your ready for first layer of Stealth Epoxy Coating. What your looking for in this first coat is to fully saturate the Stealth Veil. You’ll use 2 oz per sq ft of Stealth Epoxy Coating to fully saturate the Stealth Veil on this first saturation coat. Once the Stealth Epoxy Coating is mixed well, pour out on surface of project. Using the provided bondo spreader or a 1/8”x1/8×1/8” trowel, drawing the material evening over the surface of your project. Stay at least 1” away from the edges until the remainder of the project has epoxy spread evenly over it. You’ll find its easy to use your hands or a brush to spread our Stealth Epoxy Coating on the edges. When veil has been saturated properly it should look wet and fully saturated. We recommenced letting this saturating coat cure for at least 6 hrs pending ambient conditions of 68 to 80 degrees.
3. Applying The Flood Coat
Once your project has cured for the appropriate amount of time it’s time for its first flood coat. With our flood coats we use 3 ounces per sq ft per flood coat. Some customers use 1 flood coat while others use 2 depending on overall thickness they desire as well as application the project is being used in. We recommend using a 1/8”X 1/8” 1/8” this will spread the appropriate amount of Stealth Epoxy Coating over the surface of your project. You’ll want to use a good Nylon bristle brush to chop you trowel lines at this point. Feel free to use your hands, brush or foam roller for edges. Once the Stealth Epoxy Coating has been applied evening to the surface and edges, we recommend using a torch or heat gun to remove any remaining air bubbles. Duplicate this step if a 2nd flood coat is being applied. watch *video
